Book clubs--how many do you belong to? I participate in two official ones and then one all of my own. The Mystery Book Club at the Hiawatha Public Library has a fun month coming up. The first Thursday of March we will be sharing our thoughts and memories about reading any old Hardy Boys, Nancy Drew, Trixie Beldon, Boxcar Children or other stories from our elementary school days.
I have 3 Hardy Boys beside me: The Tower Treasure, The House on the Cliff and Hunting For Hidden Gold. I practically learned to read with these guys. My sister owned at least 20 of them, possibly more. When I started getting an allowance I started buying them, too.
Wikipedia has a list of all of them. It appears that I had them through #48--The Arctic Patron Mystery. According to the article, Frank and Joe began in 1927 then were extensively re-written beginning in 1959. The same man (Edward Stratemeyer) also created Nancy Drew.
It seems that the current rendition of the Hardy Boys has come to an end. Simon and Schuster cancelled Hardy Boys: Undercover Brothers in January 2012. However, Aladdin might begin publishing more mysteries in January 2013.
Here's to the future of the Hardy Boys! May their stories continue until they are 100 years old. (That's only 15 years away!)
Absurdly,
Pat
