What a rush! The new year has finally gotten here and it's -8 degrees in sunny Hiawatha. What more could we ask for? Well, let me count the ways.
We could ask for just a bit warmer weather. The -8 isn't the problem. It's the wind chill that hurts. You know it's cold when the inside of your nose freezes. (Thanks to Calvin and Hobbes for that observation!)
We could ask for me to stop posting strange National Whatever Days. No--wish not granted. Oh, January 4 is a very busy day. Just read these gems: Congress Assembles Day, Dimpled Chad Day, National Thank God Its Monday! Day, Trivia Day, World Hypnotism Day. Again, what more could we ask for in a day? It's ripe with conversation starters.
Just imagine congregating around the coffee pot at work (or where ever you all do your on-the-clock gossiping) and start another endless discussion about those hanging chads. It's a conversation (argument?) that is still full of vigor and vinegar after all of these years.
January 7 is intriguing, also. Not only is it my 32nd anniversary, but we moved into this house 12 years ago, and our cat will be--approximately--12 years old. But, ironically, it is also "I'm Not Going to Take It Anymore Day." Heads up, dear spouse, your life could change in ways you can't possibly imagine. Or mine could. Whichever.
Now, onto Library news. That's it. Nothing new. Check in, check out. Oh, wait. Last week the New York City Library's circulation program crashed! Woot! It seems that their program is directly connected to their library service provider and the service provider experienced a major crash. Wow! Oh, by the way, half of the libraries in the United States (including Hiawatha!) are directly connected. Yes, our circulation was offline, also. Such is life.
New Year's predictions: the circulation will increase at the Hiawatha Public Library. The number of staff members will remain the same.
That's all for now. Happy New Year!
Absurdly,
Pat
