Wow. Am I ashamed! There is no excuse for being so lax. Hmmm.
Well, it's time for an update! The 14th of July was Bastille Day and July 18 is National Ice Cream Day. I'll have to take one for the Gipper on Saturday, I guess. It will be a sacrifice, but I can do it!
At the library--is this the 21st century? Did I slip back through a time warp? Do some of our patrons need anger management? Our computer system/internet access at the library has had problems for 3 nights every night beginning at 5:30. Had a patron--40 ish--come to pick up a book for her mother. No card and no proper upbringing. She was furious that we had gotten the audio book for her mom, wanted the hard cover version immediately, and couldn't understand that I am totally helpless without the computer. BTW, the hard cover is high demand and couldn't possible be on the shelf.
When I told her that I needed my computer to place a hold on the book, she said, "Well, life was so much easier when everything was recorded on paper." I was afraid to move, in fear that I would laugh or cry. Either would have been career limiting.
We are doing well at the old HPL. Circulation for June was HUGE--over 30,000 items moved through our library. That is a record, in case you were wondering. We are fantastically excited about it and exhausted at the same time.
Wait until the end of August when I publish the fiscal year figures. We blew everything away last year. Just a hint: the predication that I made last year of over 200,000 items circulated was very, very wrong.
What is stranger that a pun-loving, tattooed librarian? One who passed her motorcycle safety class and owns a blue Honda Rebel. Yep, that's me. I look soooo cooool with my dorky sunglasses (over my prescription glasses, of course), my helmet, and my armored motorcycle jacket. Actually, I look kind of funny.
However, I have dropped it on its side 5 times (in parking lots) and I have decided to not ride it any more. I love riding on the back of my husband's cycle, but don't want to be in charge of one. Darn!
I guess that I wrote about the motorcycle just after I passed my class. It's hard to admit that I am not successful at this.
Read "The Help" by Kathryn Sockett. Read "Firefly Lane" by Kristin Hannah. Read a mystery, a romance, sci-fi, anything. Just Read.
Makes a great motto, doesn't it?
Absurdly,
Pat
