Okay, all you librarians. How many of you own an e-book reader? Now, how many of you have succumbed to the Kindle?
Hello, my name is Pat and I am a Kindleholic. There is no help for me. I am truly doomed. Please don't mourn for me. I am in heaven. Book heaven, that is. Wow.
For those who haven't been bitten by the fever yet, a Kindle is an electronic device designed to display books in electronic format. There have been many e-book readers developed, but I wasn't tempted until I held a Kindle. It was a sad day for my checkbook, let me tell you. I could tell you about all of the fun that I have had searching for the right books to download. Or the anticipation of waiting for that puppy do be delivered. But that part is boring. Just find someone that owns one and ask to hold it. And scroll through it. And play a little. Maybe even discover how easy it is to download something to it. And it plays audio books and music, too. Ah, paradise.
The worst part is--I'm a librarian--I'm supposed to encourage people to check out books from the library! Arrgh!
Don't despair. E-books are available through libraries around the world. And they count as regular check-outs for the libraries statistics, too. Just make sure that your e-book reader can handle the digital rights managment (DRM) app. This is an application that limits the use of electronic information--such as e-books. The Kindle cannot read anything that is DRM protected.
Ah, well. I have given in, at last, to the tech age of books. When will I stop?
Absurdly,
Pat
